Welcome to Term 5

I trust you all enjoyed the break and are now full of the joys of Spring!

Treloar’s Coffee Morning

Thank you to everyone who was able to support this event and well done to the children in Class 4 who designed a poster about themselves. The posters were excellent which made it very difficult for the judges to select a winner, but after much debate Frances Crowcombe was awarded first prize. Congratulations Frances!

School Lunches

Just to remind those of you who pay termly that payment is due up until 23rd May 2008 at a cost of £45.60. Please make cheques payable to SODEXHO. New Spring/Summer menus have been issued.

Suggestion Box

The silver box is now situated in the foyer. Please feel free to place your comments, concerns etc in the box and I will do my best to answer them. Thank you.

Health & Safety in PE and Active Clubs

Children love to be physically active and we want them to enjoy themselves whilst being as safe and hygienic as possible. We are asking for you to help us with this by ensuring the following:

NO jewellery to be worn for any PE lessons or clubs, this includes watches, earrings, necklaces and bracelets.

Children should all have a PE kit in school from Mon-Fri. The PE kit should consist of:

A T-shirt and shorts, with Jogging bottoms and top, daps or trainers with spare socks (laces must be done up!) for outdoor PE only

Children should not be wearing any of their school uniform for any physical activity.

If your child does not have the appropriate clothing for PE he/she will not take part and you will be informed.

Thank you for your support in this.

Punctuality

I would like to remind you that the bell rings at 8.50am and all children should be in the playground ready to line up immediately as the bell goes. School closes at 3.20pm and I would appreciate that every effort is made to collect children promptly. Occasionally the best made plans go awry and you will be late – This is completely understandable and please be assured that if you leave a message on the school phone it will be picked up and the children will be waiting safely in the hall until you arrive. Thank you.

Class 2 Meetings

Mrs Green and I were very keen to offer an opportunity for you to meet with us to discuss any aspects of school life that were important to you. In particular we felt you might want to chat about SATs procedures or transition to the juniors. We arranged two meetings for Class 2 parents and were disappointed that only one parent attended. We must conclude that you are happy with the existing procedures, level of communication and information given to parents.

Year 1 Meetings (Class 1 & 2)

We are still continuing with our plan for the Year 1 parents’ meetings on Wednesday 4th June (3.30-4pm) and Thursday 5th June (9-9.30am). There is no set agenda for the meetings; we just want to enhance our level of communication between home and school. We look forward to meeting with you.

Car Park

A number of parents have expressed concerns about parking. Please make every effort to park carefully and follow the procedure of driving in on the left side and exiting by the right. Parking too close to the gates inhibits this process. Thank you for your co-operation.

Holiday Requests

I am receiving increased numbers of leave of absence forms. Please be aware that children will lose vital teaching during these periods and have gaps in their learning as a consequence. We do not usually issue additional homework to bridge the gap. However, there is always the opportunity for extending the children’s learning through the places you visit. I am always happy to give guidance on this if it will help.
