The school will be
open for visitors on Wednesday 8th October.
We are extremely
grateful to Philip Tull for the wonderful posters he has produced to advertise
the event. If you are able to distribute the details to a public building
around our community or to a parent who may be interested please see Sam to
collect a poster.
The deadline for
Reception applications for September 2009 is Friday 14th November.
Sarah Oliver, Donni’s
niece will be handing in her thesis on Tuesday having completed her
questionnaires. Thank you to those of you who agreed to allow your children to
take part.

Judo
There are now
places available if you child would like to join. Please see Sam for further

School Office
Many of you will
have noticed that our wonderful Admin Officer appears to have moved in to the
school! This is not the case – she has just been helping to set up new
initiatives and structures to assist in the smooth running of the school. From
next week her hours will be:
Monday: 8.45am – 3.30pm
Tuesday: 8.45am
– 12.00
Wednesday: 8.45 – 11.45pm
Thursday: 8.45 – 3.30pm
Friday: 8.45 – 3.30pm
This may vary
depending on her work commitments!

Just to clarify –
holidays during term time will not be authorized by Donni unless they
are for exceptional circumstances. The Local Authority and OFSTED are now
taking this issue very seriously. Significant absences are reviewed by the
Educational Welfare Officer and can result in parents incurring fines. It has
been proven that children taken out of school will drop in their achievement
and find it really quite hard to adapt when returning to the class.

Health and
Safety
From Monday 29th
September please can all parents and pupils walk around the ICT suite to
enter the playground rather than access past Class 1.
With the start of
building work from the end of October we need to establish this new routine.
Feeling the
pinch?
We are all very
aware of the effect the credit crunch on our personal finances. If there are
times when payment for something at school is difficult please do tell
the school as we may well be able to help. We are all very proud people and we
all have times when we need a little help. Please note that any conversations
of this nature will be kept strictly confidential.

The Head Lice
Are Back!!
A number of cases
of head lice have been reported this week. Please check you child’s head
carefully tonight. If you are in doubt about what to look
for, or how to treat it, please see the advice attached to the newsletter. As
we all know, head lice are extremely contagious and everyone is liable to
become infected – even parents! However, if we all check our children tonight
we could stop them, but don’t forget you need to check again and again
until all the eggs have hatched.

Head Lice (Nits) Advice
Several cases of head
infestation have been reported in school.
·
Please check your child’s
hair regularly – if
head lice go undetected there is a much greater chance of them spreading and an
infestation starting.
Tips for the control of
head lice:
·
Wash hair with normal shampoo
and rinse.
·
Using ordinary conditioner,
condition hair. This will make the hair too slippery for the lice to hold on.
·
With conditioner still on the
hair, comb with a fine ‘head lice’ comb (available from any pharmacy).
·
Rinse as usual.
·
If lice are present they will
be combed out.
·
If no lice are present, repeat
procedures weekly – at night.
- If lice are present,
repeat this procedure every 3 days until the lice are combed out –
with at least 3 treatments – OTHERWISE RE-INFESTATION WILL OCCUR.
Lice cannot breed until
they are mature. This takes 7-10 days. The incubation period for lice eggs is
7-10 days. Therefore, by using this method, lice will be eradicated without
using pesticides or risk infecting others.
From our own personal
experiences as staff and parents, we have found that is does help to keep hair neatly
tied back while at school. Lice do not jump or fly, heads or hair normally
have to touch for the lice to spread, so the less ‘loose’ hair around the
better.
·
We would also like to point
out that adults can also be infected with head lice, so it is a good
idea to check your own hair and that of the rest of the family, (including
grand parents!) once on a while.
Please keep this for
future reference.
